Advanced Photographer Portrait competition
Well last month I entered a portrait competition in the fab magazine Advanced Photographer. So how excited was I to be selected as one of the eight finalists who got to spend the day shooting in a studio with fashion photographer Dave Kai Piper, the stunning and oh so professional model Chloe Jasmine Whichello. The team from Sigma Imaging including Paul Reynolds were there, as we were shooting with their Sigma SD1 and of course Will Cheung, editor of Advanced Photographer.
These were the three portraits I entered that grabbed me a place on the day. They feature the oh so pretty pin up models Kia L'Amour and Diablo Rose, shot in the previousley featured Vintage Salon in Birminghams Custard Factory.
Sooooo wanna see what happens behind the scenes when you fill a studio full of photographers a model, a make up artist, throw in some great teaching, a new camera, and a magazine editor.... Oh and a little healthy competition in the form of a brand new Sigma DP2 Merrill camera for a prize....
So this is the team all together for one final photograph, after a long but FUN day at the studio. ( hint...I'm in pink !) Then it is up to us eight finalists to spend the weekend scrutinizing and editing our images, and deciding which three we want to submit to be judged by Dave, Will and the guys from Sigma.
I really enjoyed the shoot, got some great teaching from Dave Kai Piper, and was really pleased with my images......but it was really tough chosing which ones to go with for the submission. Its hard trying to second guess what others are going to think of your work and how they will judge it. These are a selection of my favourites from my shoot............
.......so those where the images I didn't submit.......and now for my final three that I decided to enter.......
This is my 'Hollywood, Marilyn' style look. I'm really pleased with how it turned out. A different take on the 'red carpet'.
This image was taken at the end of what was a very long day for our model Chloe. I caught this beautiful image as she rested her hand to her forehead between poses. I love the softness and warm glow in this.
I love the beautiful clean lighting in this one, and the gorgeous curved 'S' shape made by Chloe as she looks off into the distance. To complment this I went for soft muted tones in my post production.
So ......did one of my final three images win ???? Well I can't spill the beans so you will have to wait until the 13th Dec and grab yourself a copy of Advanced Photographer Magazine to find out !
